HCML Scoops Industry Award

29 June 2009

HCML, the UK’s leading professional rehabilitation provider, has won the Employer Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year Category at the Rehabilitation First Awards, for a service developed in conjunction with Aviva.

The win was announced at the awards ceremony, which took place on Friday afternoon at London Zoo. The highly coveted accolades reward the crème-de-la-crème of the rehabilitation sector, officially recognising the excellence of those who further the development of rehabilitation within the UK.

The Employer Initiative of the Year category recognises programs that offer an innovative approach to ensuring individuals receive prompt and personalised care, reinforced by tangible results. ‘Back-Up’, HCML and Aviva’s joint initiative dedicated to offering an end-to-end rehabilitation service for customers with back and neck problems, looks to respond to two of the most common causes of sickness absence in the UK, estimated to cost the economy £12.3 billion a year.

Helen Merfield HCML’s CEO and winner of the ‘Outstanding Individual Achievement’ category at the 2008 Rehabilitation First Awards, said “We are so delighted to have won this award. It is a welcome external endorsement for an approach that we believe is unique within the PMI industry; a demonstration that clinical best practice can be successfully delivered in a commercial setting to the benefit of the service user and the employer alike.”

Mark Sharpe, Clinical Development Manager at Aviva's UK Health business, said: “We are extremely proud of the service that the Aviva and HCML partnership has created, which has already delivered numerous benefits for our customers. The personalised service employees receive from their dedicated Case Manager has proven to help speed their recovery, whilst helping employers control their sickness absence and medical insurance claims costs. The feedback we've received from our customers has been fantastic and this award completes the honours.”

HCML’s, Claire Mulvey, Rehabilitation Case Manager and Clinical Supervisor, and Catherine MacMillan, Technical Account Manager, were in the final three shortlisted nominations for the Case Manager of the Year and Young Achiever of the Year categories.
