Vocational Rehabilitation
HCML applies a pro-active approach to vocational rehabilitation, working with the individual to facilitate a safe, suitable and sustainable return to productive employment. This is either with their current or a new employer.
Our vocational services are linked closely with the ongoing medical management of each person’s case; where the individual can return to their existing employer, we work with all parties to facilitate a workplace assessment and develop a graduated return to work programme.
Where the individual cannot return to their existing role or employer, HCML's Case Managers will work to identify appropriate vocational goals in line with medical restrictions, employment and training background.
We will then ascertain applicable transferable skills to help identify the most appropriate pathway back to work within medical guidelines.
Far from being a harmful activity, work is generally good for people and HCML views it as an intrinsic part of the healing process. We find that the people who take up our service are empowered and encouraged by our support to return to work in a timely and cost-minimising way.
The precise nature of our vocational intervention varies according to need but can include:
- A full psychometric assessment to determine aptitudes, interest and personality
- Career counselling to support the individual, including CV building and job application help where necessary
- Support to the individual and employer in making applications for government funding for workplace adaptations
- Advice and guidance to the employer to ensure easy return to work of the injured individual
- Use of our local networks and contacts to speed up job finding
Many individuals who have become disabled in some way need sensitive psychological support. We pride ourselves on our ability to build rapport with the claimant while focusing on the commercial drivers in each case. We then advise employers on how to comply with legislative requirements such as the Disability Discrimination Act.
