Instructing a rehabilitation case manager
HCML rehabilitation case managers all have clinical backgrounds. The amputee case management team’s professional backgrounds range from physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, sports rehabilitation and neuro specialists. All rehabilitation case managers hold professional memberships to relevant bodies including CMSUK, British Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in limb Absence Rehabilitation (BACPAR) and The Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
The team is supported by Amputee Clinical Lead, Jason Chidwick who provides regular specialist amputee clinical supervision. Monthly audits, sharing specialist insight, multidisciplinary case clinics and funding for continued professional development ensures case managers are at the forefront of clinical expertise, and work to achieve the best possible outcomes for rehab clients.
A collaborative approach across NHS, statutory and private services
HCML rehabilitation case managers are experts at collaborating with and coordinating rehabilitation interventions across NHS, statutory and private services. They understand NHS provision for amputees and work with the relevant departments to provide early rehabilitation intervention where possible. When it comes to specific goals, the case managers advocate client needs, working closely with private providers to organise trials for prosthetics or adaptive equipment they know will change that person’s life significantly.
This is where amputee rehabilitation case managers make sure they keep up to speed with the latest innovation and advancing technology for amputee rehabilitation. In the past, this has included supporting clients with trialling augmented reality technology for residual limb control and powered orthotic devices.
