As part of Black History Month this October, we’re celebrating some of our rising employees at HCML with a series of Q&A interviews. Here we explore their experience in the healthcare sector, what got them to where they are today and their aspirations for the future.

First up, Jerome Gray – our marketing executive. Jerome only joined HCML three months ago but has already been busy assisting the marketing team with the wider branding strategy and working alongside the business development team.

What does your role involve and what are your key responsibilities?

I joined at a pivotal and exciting time for the business – we’re just about to launch our new branding which involves a new logo, website and marketing materials across the business. So lots to do! As well as the rebrand, HCML also acquired healthcare rm over the summer so there has been lots of work to integrate the two businesses together.

Beyond this, I am working closely with the sales team to help further streamline the sales process. I’m also responsible for helping to manage HCML’s social media platforms and creating content for the website.

What interested you in a career in Healthcare?

Prior to joining HCML I worked at a performance marketing agency managing clients such as Autoglym, New Balance and Gap. So, joining HCML was quite a change in industry for me, but an opportunity that I am very grateful for. Having grown up surrounded by family members who were nurses, GP’s and part of management services in both the NHS and other healthcare providers, this is a sector that has always been familiar to me. When the chance to work for a leading rehabilitation provider came up, it felt like a natural fit.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

HCML is a fast-growing company in the private healthcare sector with a lot of ambition. Being able to be part of this growth journey, helping shape content to tell our story and being involved in decisions around the rebrand has been very rewarding and something I’m really excited to be part of.

If you could give someone looking to get into the healthcare sector one piece of advice, what would it be?

I’ve already learnt so much in such a short space of time and I realise that I still have so much to discover. My advice would be to never stop reading and researching the industry – just at HCML alone we cover physical, personal, and mental health and there is so much to know within this. I’m constantly in awe of my clinical colleagues – as specialists in their field they are expected to know about all the latest treatments available, new technologies, routes to recovery, the list goes on. There is so much to keep up and it’s constantly changing so keeping up with this is one of the biggest challenges.

What do you think we can expect to see in the healthcare sector over the next 5/10 years?

I think we’re going to see a lot more digital advancements in treatment pathways and ongoing support. Not only in actual healthcare interventions, but also in the way that clients have control over their own health.
