In our recent webinar, we were joined by Jo — Corporate Health Case Manager, yoga teacher, and breathwork facilitator—who shared actionable strategies for improving wellbeing through mindfulness and breathwork. The session offered attendees simple yet effective tools applicable in both personal and professional settings.

Below are key takeaways and practical tips from Jo’s session, complemented by insights from our previous blog on the hidden dynamics of wellbeing.

Utilise Breathwork to Manage Stress

Breathwork is a powerful tool for regulating stress and enhancing focus. Jo introduced techniques that can be seamlessly integrated into daily routines.

Tip:
Practise the box breathing method: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold again for 4 seconds. Repeat this cycle for a few minutes to promote calmness and clarity.

Incorporate Mindfulness into Daily Activities

Mindfulness doesn’t require extensive time commitments. Brief moments of intentional awareness can ground you during a busy day.

Tip:
During short breaks, take 1–2 minutes to focus on your breath and observe your surroundings without judgment. This practice can enhance presence and reduce stress.

Address Underlying Beliefs Affecting Health

Research we conducted in 2024 highlighted that unhelpful thoughts and feelings about health can lead to avoidance behaviours and impact recovery – hidden dynamics of wellbeing.

Tip:
Encourage open discussions about health perceptions and provide support to address limiting beliefs, fostering a more resilient workforce.

Recognise the Role of Work in Mental Health

Our research also found that 42% of employees perceive work as a contributing factor to their mental health conditions.

Tip:
Employers should assess workplace factors contributing to stress and implement changes to create a supportive environment.

Promote Work-Life Balance

Balancing work and personal life is crucial for overall wellbeing. Our findings suggests that lifestyle factors significantly impact health.

Tip:
Implement policies that support flexible working hours and encourage employees to take regular breaks and holidays to recharge.

Final Thoughts

Mindfulness and breathwork are not just personal practices; they are valuable tools for enhancing workplace wellbeing. By integrating these strategies and addressing underlying health beliefs, employers can foster a healthier, more productive workforce.
