Our nationwide case management team is supported by Clinical Operations Managers with extensive clinical backgrounds and experience. 

HCML Clinical Leads are experienced in managing complex healthcare needs. Each of our Clinical Leads is an expert in their field which includes acquired and traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and children and young people’s rehabilitation, as well as complex mental health and vocational rehabilitation.

Ian Waters

Group Chief Operating Officer

Ian has 12 years’ experience in the personal injury market and is a specialist in the areas of traumatic brain injury and complex orthopaedics. 

Having spent a number of years as a specialist rehabilitation case manager, Ian now oversees HCML’s personal injury rehabilitation case management, running regular multi-disciplinary case review sessions as well as providing direct support and supervision. Ian has specific expertise in traumatic brain injury and sits on the Board of Trustees for Headway South West London.

Bob Butler

Clinical Lead – Children & Young People’s Services and Specialist Rehabilitation Case Manager

Bob has more than 30 years of clinical and specialist management experience in treating and managing rehabilitation for paediatric clients who have suffered mild through to extremely severe acquired and traumatic brain injuries. Bob’s previous caseload included birth-related as well as subsequent trauma-related neurological injuries.

Bob has vast clinical and management experience in the field of rehabilitation of children and young people. In 1990, Bob pioneered the UK’s first children’s rehabilitation services at The Children’s Trust, Tadworth (formerly known as Tadworth Court), developing residential and community services for some of the country’s most severely brain and neurologically injured children and young people.

Claire MacLaine

Clinical Lead – Brain Injury and Specialist Rehabilitation Case Manager

Claire MacLaine is a speech and language therapist who has been working with adults with neurological disorders for more than 20 years.

She has specialised in supporting adults with traumatic brain injuries in intensive care, neurosurgery and neurorehabilitation, through to outpatients and community interventions in the UK and New Zealand.

Within these specialities, she has been a clinical educator for students and junior staff, a professional advisor and a workplace trainer on the psychological and physical effects of brain and spinal cord injury. She is also a conference presenter on the neuroscience of cognitive communication, a storyteller for wellbeing and an improvisation workshop facilitator for enabling confident communication skills.

Jason Chidwick

Clinical Lead – Amputee and Specialist Rehabilitation Case Manager

Jason is an expert and leading case manager in the rehabilitation and management of amputees and individuals with complex polytrauma and multiple biopsychosocial factors. He previously worked at a high level within the English football league and within a private clinic setting, and has brought these skills and experience to HCML.

Jason holds a caseload of catastrophic/amputee cases alongside his role as amputee clinical lead, where he provides peer support to other case managers. Jason regularly works with a range of providers across private and statutory services to achieve successful client outcomes.

Kate Barton

Head of Personal Injury Service Development

Kate has extensive experience as a front-line paramedic, clinical student mentor and disability specialist, dealing with a wide range of accident-related illnesses and conditions. 

She started her career with HCML as a multi-track case manager, specialising in complex orthopaedic cases, with a particular interest in non-union injuries, complex pain and post-traumatic stress management. Following this, she migrated to managing clients with minor brain injuries and post-concussion syndrome. 

Kate is now a clinical operations manager for HCML, managing a team of specialist and rehabilitation case managers.

Steve Barker

Head of Personal Injury Operations

Steve is an occupational therapist by background with over 25 years of clinical and rehabilitation experience. 

He has managed wards in wide variety of areas and been operationally responsible for an outpatient service. Prior to his current role he was a specialist rehabilitation case manager at HCML, specifically supporting those who have experienced brain injury and major limb amputation.
